Y6 Trip to Gressenhall

Year 6 visited Gressenhall Rural Life Museum to launch their study of the Victorians. The staff there had organised a series of activities on the theme of Christmas in the workhouse.

The children made a real effort to make the experience as authentic as possible by wearing period costume and taking appropriate food (in 19th century packaging).

Each pupil had the opportunity to learn and perform the Norfolk Longdance, Victorian parlour games, learn about and mix the ingredients for mincemeat as well as have a tour of the workhouse itself.

The carousel of activities helped the children to form an opinion about whether the workhouse was actually a bad place to be as a poor member of Victorian society. Everyone really enjoyed the day and we look forward to learning more about that fascinating period of our history.
