Firside Junior School is a co-educational school for children from 7 to 11 years old. It is the popular, and natural school of choice within Hellesdon and attracts many pupils from a wider area. We offer a stimulating environment for learning, where every child can thrive and do well. We believe that every child deserves the best education possible and we aim to provide just that. We set out to give children a sense of purpose, encourage their confidence and to enjoy learning. Children are happy and do well at Firside.
The school was last inspected by Ofsted in March 2012. While the team recognised many strengths, they considered that some children were not making as much progress as they should and as a result the school was been given a ‘notice to improve’. The work that has been undertaken since March is already showing very positive outcomes.
An HMI inspection in November 2012 found that the school had made good progress and that in most areas the improvement was rapid and sustained. It was reported that:
- Pupils are reaching higher standards and making better progress;
- The proportion of children reaching expected, or better, levels was greater than the national average – and that there is an upward trend in attainment.
- Pupil progress from KS1 is generally in-line with national expectations and it accelerates as children move up through the school.
- Assessment is accurate and reliable (confirming that progress from the beginning of Year 3 is ‘good’).
We regard our partnership with you as vital for your child’s success. With your support we feel confident of enabling your child to make the most of the many opportunities that lie ahead.
